Wicksteed Park Dragon Bonfire

Wicksteed Park already have a fantastic choreographed firework display by MLE Pyrotechnics and this year the park asked Pirate Technics to sculpt their bonfire too.

We built them a huge dragon from pallets and old timber. Well done all Pirates who braved the torrential rain to create this epic beast!

The Love-Bot Demands Bestival Love!

For Bestival on the Isle of Wight this year, Shipshape Arts designed and built the Love-Bot. A 7m tall colossus that towered above the crowd. The story was as follows:

"The Lovebot needs love for his energy, without it he rests in limbo - full of angst and worry, with his joints gradually rusting together and his internal batteries slowly running down... all he needs to come alive is someone to show him some love!"

He had animated eyes, lights, turning key and smoke from his ears. The more love he was shown, the more animated he became!

If you are walking through Nottingham Market Square and wonder where our sweepers sculptures have gone, they have been relocated to Nottingham Castle where hopefully they will receive less abuse from Stag-Dos!

Remember to stop by and visit our cushion spiral on the way!

Green Man Festival

Pirate Technics once again built and burnt the Green Man sculpture for the eponymous festival.

This year the wishes were written onto wooden flags extending into the field, which were wrapped around him before the burn.

It is a fantastic festival and you should all join us there next year!

The Best Block Party at Secret Garden Party 2015

Secret Garden Party 2015 was a bit of a muddy one, but congratulations to all Pirates for not only rocking it (as usual!) but also keeping our stage going for a whole extra unscheduled day all through Sunday at the best block party on site!

The coloured building block boat we constructed on the lake was bold and the smubble machines looked awesome from the shore!

Parrot Pagodas at Glastonbury 2015

Our Parrot Pagodas are normally backstage at The Park area of Glastonbury, but this year they were in full public view right in front of The Park main stage.

They held up well and offered great shade and shelter to all.

Remember, the Parrot Pagodas are available to hire from us and there are plans to increase the number available to more than 3.

Giant Scarecrows do not Scare Crows

It's official! We now have evidence that, ironically, giant scarecrows actually scare crows less.
We captured this picture whilst installing our giant time-travelling scarecrow for the RHS Hampton Court Palace Flower Show.

Cutting Hedge Sculpture!

"Cutting hedge sculpture - that was the response from one member of the public about our new Sweepers Installation found in Market Square, Nottingham.
They have been commissioned by Nottingham City Council to celebrate their status as Britain's cleanest city!

There has been some fantastic press surrounding this installation, including features on local news and national news websites. http://www.itv.com/news/central/update/2015-06-01/giant-sculptures-unveiled-to-encourage-shoppers-to-keep-nottingham-the-cleanest-city-in-britain/

The Improbable Cushion Spiral

To promote their range of luxury cushions, John Lewis commissioned us to build an improbable cushion spiral. It has gone on display at their flagship store on Oxford Street and has been installed to coincide with their ongoing refurbishment. It features a mirrored base so it appears twice as big too!

Mini Green Man

Normally we're used to building massive sculptures for the Green Man Festival, but this collapsible one we have built will be driven around the country in the back of a car promoting their events this year.
