Under the Baobab Installation Complete

We have finally returned to Nottinghamshire from London, with our sculpture Under the Baobab successfully installed in front of the Hayward Gallery beside Waterloo bridge.

Pirate Technics are very pleased with how smoothly everything went and thanks go out to all our friends and family that came to see and support us while we were working long days.

We have since been featured on the BBC website's Day in Pictures http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-18187424 and Yahoo Photos of the Day http://gma.yahoo.com/photos/photos-of-the-day-1337715940-slideshow/photos-of-the-day-photo-1337873673.html

Media Attention for Under the Baobab

As the installation at the Southbank of the project Under the Baobab nears completion, the media arrived to take some pictures of the sculpture.

This is the article from page 4 of the London edition of the Metro, which appeared on Friday 25th May 2012.

Foxy on the TV again

PirateTechnic's straw fox sculpture, entitled Urban Fox, is featured in the new Ford television advert now airing across Europe. The advertisement features Urban Fox installed on the roof of the Queen Elizabeth Hall for the Festival of Britain's Anniversary in 2011 on the South Bank, London.

Follow this link for the full feature (http://www.ford.co.uk/RealWorldChallenges/mdp=v1205000926301); a journey from Rome to Edinburgh on only 2 tanks of fuel. The advert captures the Lourve to represent Paris, then the drive over Waterloo Bridge to represent London. First we see the seven metre straw animal through the passenger's window then, from further along the bridge, we are shown the London Eye and Big Ben on the skyline. The journey north to Scotland is then shown by passing Anthony Gormley's Angel of the North.

This is the second time Susan the fox has been on prime-time television, after being featured by the BBC in 'The Culture Show' last year. She has since been moved to the site of a major music festival where she shall continue to inspire those who see her. We do however plan to get her into the spirit of festival season by dressing her up in fancy dress for the event itself.

Festival Award Shortlisting

Pirate Technics have made the shortlist for the Extra-Festival Activity Award in the 2011 Festival Awards.

The award is described as follows:

Music is a vital element of any successful festival, but it's often the "extras", such as pop-up performances and mass participation games which fill heads and cameras with memories which last a lifetime. There are so many wonderful creative elements at festivals, but which one was the best?

Unfortunately, this is a jury-decided award. So if any of the judges out there are reading this, then I'm sure we've got some gold doubloons that could sway your opinion...
